PROTECTANTSSolutions for Conventional Growers
Why add pesticides to soil and air when seed protectants can be applied directly to seeds?
Seed-applied plant protectants provide a low-risk, highly targeted way to enhance seedling health, fight pests, and improve stand establishment.
Beneficial to the plants AND the environment
How can a seed treatment, meant to control fungal diseases and destructive seedling insect pests, also benefit the environment?
Seed-applied plant protectants are beneficial to the environment because the total amount of “toxicants” applied per acre is significantly less than traditional in-furrow, foliar spray, or soil applied protectants. Precise placement on the target means nothing but the seed is treated. The environment is not subject to overspray issues, wind drift or on site chemical spills. That means:
- minimum toxicants are used
- minimum environmental impact
- minimum worker exposure
- minimum wildlife exposure
- minimum interference with beneficial organism
Seed pellets have been shown to be effective carriers of plant protectants (pesticides). The act of applying a plant protectant in a band within the pellet is known as “pellet loading.” The pelleting materials can buffer and neutralize the negative impact a plant protectant can have as it moves through the pellet to the seed. Actives can thus be “loaded” onto the seed while minimizing adverse effects to seed germination.
We apply plant protectants to the seeds themselves, resulting in a safe and controlled delivery mechanism of compounds that help control insect pests and seedling diseases which increases seedling emergence potential, plant stand establishment, early season vigor, plant health and yield potential. Seed-applied protectants work when and where they’re needed most—right on the emerging seed, at the most critical point in plant development.
NipsIt® Seed Technology
When maximizing quality and units per acre, healthy seed and seedlings are not a luxury they are essential to success. Valent Corporation’s NipsIt® is an innovative seed treatment tailored specifically for broccoli and lettuce seed. As soon as the seed hits the ground it is exposed to insect predators. NipsIt® can provide excellent extended seed and seedling protection against targeted insect pests assuring young plants can fully express their genetic potential.
Syngenta offers a suite of very effective seed treatments. More correctly these products should be called “seed-applied plant protectants”. A selection of these seed applied treatments have a residual effect offering extended protection of important insect pests for up to 3 and 4 weeks. FarMore® Technology Pak is a selection of different disease and insect pest seed treatments that work as a first line of defense against a range of pests. The compounds control important seedling insect pests, soil-borne diseases, seed-borne diseases, and airborne diseases that attack germinating seeds and seedlings. Read More
Onion, carrot and leek growers have a very crop specific and effective seed treatment tool at their disposal in Sepresto. This seed treatment tool provides excellent seed and seedling protection from important insect pests. Another effective “seed-applied plant protectant” from Bayer.
